The Tirumala Venkateswara Temple is a famous Hindu temple situated on the Tirumala hills in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the most visited religious sites in the world, attracting over 50,000 to 100,000 pilgrims daily.

History

The temple's history spans over 2,000 years. It was first mentioned in Tamil literature of the Sangam period (100 BCE–250 CE). The present structure was built during the rule of Thondaiman kings and was expanded significantly by the Vijayanagara Empire rulers in the 15th century.

🕉 Significance

Lord Venkateswara is believed to be the supreme form of Lord Vishnu who came to earth to save humanity from the trials of Kali Yuga. The temple receives the highest donations of any religious institution in the world, with devotees offering gold, cash and hair as a gesture of gratitude.

🚌 How to Reach

Tirupati is well connected by air (Tirupati Airport), rail (Tirupati Railway Station) and road. From Tirupati town, buses and taxis run to Tirumala. The hill can also be climbed on foot via the traditional footpath (about 11km).

October to February is the best time to visit when the weather is pleasant. Avoid peak festival times like Brahmotsavam unless you specifically want to attend.
